Apparently My Arm Doesn’t Like Being Bitten

Share me:

When an Aussie tells you that you should probably go see a doctor, you go and see a doctor.

I woke up a few days ago with an itchy elbow. Something had bit me.

This was nothing out of the ordinary as there are loads of things out here that will give you a nip; ants, mosquitoes, sand flies & spiders to name but a few. So I gave it no further thought.

Fast forward 24 hours and when I woke up this morning, my elbow was now sporting a huge lump. Still itchy and now swollen, I still thought nothing of it and went to work.

Paul's arm with and without a bite

Left: My normal left elbow.
Right: My crazy swollen right elbow.

I thought I’d show an Aussie mate and gauge his reaction, as unless you’re on deaths door, most Australians would tell you to man up and just get on with it.

“#Expletive!# What is that?! You need to see a doctor, mate.”

Yep, that would do it. So off to the doctors I went.

Strangely, the doctor didn’t ask if I knew what had bit me, and just asked how long ago it was that I first noticed it.

She said that it was hard to tell whether it was infected or just my body reacting to the bite, so she told me to go get some anti-inflammatory pills from the pharmacy and see what happens.

So I guess we’ll see what happens.

At least I we know it wasn’t a funnel web spider, as if it was, I would’t be writing this post!
