Happy New Year!
As the weather on New Year’s Eve was so awesome, we decided that we’d hit beach. We spent the morning and afternoon sunbathing, swimming and having a few cocktails on the sea front.I’m usually rubbish with organising something to do on New Year’s Eve, always leaving it to the last minute, and this year was no different.
Obviously when everyone thinks of Sydney at New Years the first thing that jumps to mind is the harbour fireworks. While we’ll definitely have to do this one year, we saw the Fleet Review fireworks on Sydney Harbour only a few months ago and they were awesome, so we thought that this year we’d maybe give them a miss.
Also making our decision easier was that 90% of tickets were snapped up in just a few hours of going on sale back in November!
Despite being invited to a house party in Newtown by a friend, we actually ended up getting some last minute tickets to Shore Thing being held on Bondi Beach.
Shore Thing is a music festival that is held on the beach every year. I think the hidden agenda of it is to keep the younger non-family oriented people, who want to drink the New Year in, away from the harbour.
They get some pretty big names to perform which in the past have included Fatboy Slim, Groove Armada, Basement Jaxx, Armand Van Helden and David Guetta.
This year’s headline act is also a big name, Skrillex, however his music isn’t really to my taste so much as the artists that have appeared in past years which was a bit of a shame.
Because neither myself or Nat are die hard dubstep fans, we decided to stay home until 9pm so that we could watch the first set of Sydney Harbour fireworks from our balcony. We then headed down to the beach at around 9:30pm to have some beers and check out Shore Thing.
When midnight rolled around, Shore Thing set of some pretty decent fireworks over the beach as Skrillex came on stage to begin his headline set.
A lot of exciting stuff has happened for us in 2013, the most significant obviously being moving half way around the world to live in Australia! Our adventure here in Oz is only just beginning and so 2014 is going to be an even more exciting year for us! I can’t wait to see what it has in store!
